How To Target Your Business Leads On Facebook

Over time most businesses focus on building databases of leads and customers. This way they can boost sales and promote new products using low cost methods, such as, e.g. direct mails and newsletters.

With the introduction of social networks – in particular Facebook, there have been a huge changes in how and where to communicate with your customers. In some industries the newsletters and direct mails has been replaced with social media promotions making the lists somewhat obsolete – or maybe not!

Did you know that you can upload your database to Facebook thereby customizing your ads to your customers and leads?

If your business has a database with e-mail addresses you can easily conduct a search on Facebook where you match the business leads with their Facebook accounts. However, do keep in mind that depending on the information you have the success rate for matching will be between 30-50% as business e-mails and business mobile numbers hardly ever is used on a persons private Facebook account. On the other hand if your database primarily contains of private numbers and e-mail addresses the percentage might be much higher.

In order to upload your database you need to go to Facebook Power Editor to start with – remember that this only runs with Google Chrome!

1. Start creating your audience


Start by clicking the “audiences” in the left side bar.

2. Create custom audience


Go to the drop down menu “create audience” and pick the menu “Custom Audience”.

3. Create audience file


Give the audience a name and description e.g. “New leads”. Upload the file you wish to import – keep in mind that this need to bi in CSV or TXT format. Also you need the data to be listed in one column without the header row.

4. Upload the file


If your list meets all requirements you will get this message and you will be up and running.

5. Use the newly created list


Once you have created your custom audience list you will be able to use it when targeting new ads. All you need to do, is pick the  “advanced Options” under the menu Audience. This will allow you to enter the name of your newly created list thereby making it possible to target this list of people in your next Facebook ad. Good luck!
