Twitter Q4 Earnings: 288 Million Monthly Active Users, $479 Million Revenue, $0.12 EPS (SocialTimes)
Twitter’s fourth-quarter earnings for 2014 are out, and the all-important monthly active users number is, once again, soft. Twitter reported 288 million MAUs for Q4 2014, up just 4 million on Q3’s 284 million, which was well below analyst expectations (which ranged between 287 to 292 million MAUs for the period). The Wall Street Journal Still, investors sent Twitter’s shares up nearly 10 percent, or $4.04, to $45.30 in after-hours trading in part because Twitter executives suggested that the meager growth should be a blip. On Wednesday word leaked that Twitter had struck a deal to have tweets shown in Google search results. And Twitter has shown time and again that it has no trouble making money. In fact, Twitter has doubled revenue every quarter. The New York Times The earnings report held some good news for the eight-year-old micromessaging service, which since its initial public offering in 2013 has been playing defense against shareholders who expect blockbuster results akin to Facebook, a far larger social media service. Twitter said it had revenue of $479 million in the fourth quarter, up 97 percent compared with $243 million a year ago, and easily surpassing analyst expectations of $453 million. CNBC Twitter CEO Dick Costolo has taken some heat for his management over the past several months, with some analysts predicting that his tenure may soon be up at the company. Still, Twitter has attempted to innovate on several fronts.

First reported by Variety, Nielsen Social has begun to approach TV networks with a new metric (not included in the current Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings): tweets per impression. Erika Faust, vice president of client services at Nielsen Social, teased “TPI” Wednesday at the Media Insights and Engagement conference. “We’re going to spend a lot more time focusing on this category,” she said, noting the metric is still early in development. “Advertisers now want to start looking at this.”

LinkedIn Beats Earnings Estimates as More Employers Seek Talent (Re/code)
Wall Street was expecting a big fourth quarter from LinkedIn, and the company delivered. The professional networking company reported a profit of 61 cents per share on $643 million in revenue, above analyst estimates of 53 cents per share on nearly $617 million in revenue. The stock went up 6.2 percent in after-hours trading.

Updates to Facebook Mentions App for Public Figures (SocialTimes)
Public figures with access to the Facebook Mentions application can now use the app to share via Instagram and Twitter, and add topics to their Mentions feeds. Product manager Allison Swope announced the new features in a Facebook Media blog post, adding that there are now 2 billion weekly interactions on Facebook between public figures and their fans.
